![]() Today's Countertenor Update is Flavio Ferri-Benedetti. Countertenor Flavio Ferri-Benedetti is fast making a name for himself on the opera and concert circuit with a repertoire stretching from Mediaeval to Romantic music. While he is known primarily for his work with the Baroque composers, his interpretations of Strauss Lieder are beyond compare. Check out his pages and the video below. This week's Aria of the Week is "Vo solcando un mar crudele" from Vinci's Artaserse. The performer is Franco Fagioli. ![]() Today's Counetrtenor Update is Catalan countertenor Xavier Sabata. Equally at home as a hero or villain, Catalan countertenor Xavier Sabata's musicality, stage presence and versatility are much in demand by opera companies, concert houses and record lables. His latest release, Handel's Bad Guys, has made a powerful impression on the Early Music community. Check out the video below, and his pages here. ![]() The latest profile to be added to the Countertenor Corner is Ukranian countertenor Yuriy Mynenko. Ukrainian countertenor Yuriy Minenko was the first countertenor to reach the finals of the Cardiff Singer of the World. His voice is rich and full, with surprising strength in the middle and lower regions. He was one of the five countertenors which participated in the much acclaimed all-male production of Vinci's Artaserse. Bejun Mehta has a unique voice, one which is intensely secure over the modal/falsetto interchange which allows him to excel in roles that were written for the alto castrati. The first official Aria of the Week here at the Countertenor Corner is "Quella flamma" from Handel's Arminio. It is performed by David Hansen. ![]() Tonight's countertenor profile is that of Jake Arditti. Jake Arditti's robust countertenor voice is perfect for the heroic roles found in Baroque opera. Having excelled in the title role in Handel's Riccardo Primo, he is fast making a name for himself in opera houses around Europe. He is currently performing with ETO in Agrippina and L’Incoronazione di Poppea. Check out his pages and the video below. ![]() Today's addition to the Countertenor Profiles is Canadian countertenor Michale C Taylor. Canadian countertenor Michael C Taylor is a rising star of the Early Music scene. He is the co-founder and artistic director of baroque ensemble “The Dansant”, with whom he will be releasing his first album "To Die, To Sleep" which includes music by Handel, Vivaldi and Graun. Welcome to the first post for the new Countertenor Corner, which hopes to become the place for all the latest information about countertenors past and present. Started a few years after the Contralto Corner, the Countertenor Corner will hopefully become a showcase for the talents of those amazing guys who sing everything from alto to coloratura soprano.
