His orchestral concert work and recital partnership with pianist Julius Drake, in adventurous programs ranging from Baroque to contemporary music, have been presented by the world's foremost concert venues including the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, London’s Wigmore Hall, the Wiener Konzerthaus, Carnegie Hall, Zankel Hall, the 92nd Street Y, Brussels' Palais des Beaux Arts, the Palau des Arts Valencia, Madrid’s Teatro de la Zarzeula, the Cité de la Musique in Paris, the Bremen Musikfest, the Edinburgh, San Sebastian, Verbier and Schleswig-Holstein Festivals, as well as the BBC Proms in London.
Mr. Mehta is now known to a wide audience through various TV profiles by CBS-TV, A&E, ORF 2, TW-1, Arte and ARD. He was nominated for the Olivier Award for his portrayal of Orlando at the ROH, Covent Garden. He holds an honors degree in German Literature from Yale University. Engagements last season included Arsamenes (Xerses)and Telemaco (Telemaco) for Theater an der Wien; the title role in Orlando for La Monnaie; Tamerlano at the Salzburg Festival; a tour of aria concerts with the Freiburger Barockorchester; and the world premiere of George Benjamin’s new opera,Written on Skin, in Aix-en-Provence. In recital, he appeared at the Berliner Staatsoper and the Cuvilliés-Theater in Munich, in partnership with Julius Drake. 2012-2013 highlights include further Written on Skin performances in Amsterdam and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; a Handel aria programme with the Freiburger Barockorchester in Barcelona, Munich, Essen, St Pölten; a programme of Classical Arias, some newly discovered, with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin in Hamburg, Toulouse, Potsdam and Vienna’s Musikverein; Ottone (Agrippina) and Helmut Oehring’sAschemond/The Fairy Queen at the Berliner Staatsoper; and Orlando (Orlando) at the Holland Festival. Bejun Mehta records for Harmonia Mundi. His Handel aria album Ombra Cara, with the Freiburger Barockorchester conducted by René Jacobs, was awarded the 2011 ECHO Klassik Prize in the category 'Opera Recording of the Year'. His next solo CD, Down by the Salley Gardens, a recital of English romantic songs with pianist Julius Drake, was released November 2011. A new recording of Classical Arias with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and René Jacobs is scheduled for December 2013 release. Also available on CD and DVD are Agrippina (BBC Music Magazine's 2012 Opera Award), and Belshazzar, both on Harmonia Mundi, Theodora (C-Major Entertainment/Unitel, shortlisted for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik), Mitridate (Decca), Messiah(Unitel Classics), Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream (Glyndebourne), and Benjamin'sWritten on Skin (Nimbus). In addition to his busy schedule as a singer, Bejun Mehta has been invited by the Belgian Baroque Orchestra B’Rock to conduct a series of concerts in October 2013.
